Paws for Purple Hearts
Therapeutic service dog program where veterans train dogs as part of their own healing and rehabilitation.
About
Paws for Purple Hearts combines service dog training with therapeutic benefits for veterans. Veterans participate in training service dogs as part of their own rehabilitation, gaining a sense of purpose and developing patience, communication skills, and emotional regulation. Completed service dogs are placed with veterans who need mobility or psychiatric assistance. The program operates at VA medical centers and community locations.
Eligibility
Open to veterans participating in VA rehabilitation programs or referred by VA healthcare providers. Service dog recipients must have a qualifying disability.
